The euphopric high of the opening ceremonies has begun to wain; a Chinese man from Hangzhou attacked two Americans in Beijing today, killing one and injuring another. Their Chinese tour guide was also stabbed before the attacker committed suicide. The Americans were family members of a US coach and former US Olympian athlete. While I am sure this was an isolated event where mental health issues probably came into play, I would not be surprised if this is the olny "incident" before the closing ceremonies in 18 days.
Historically the Olympics were a period when cease fires were temporarily called between nations at war. So the news about the attacks in Beijing as well as the news of war between Russia and Georgia over the territory and annexation of South Ossetia shocks me.
Maybe it is because I have just finished reading Queen Noor al Hussein of Jordon's autobiography called Leap of Faith (best book I've read all year and does a great job of characterizing the Arab point of view in the Middle East conflict), but this news about war really tugs at my heart. I do not fully know the circumstances and I am not going to begin to characterize or pick sides, but I do know there were most likely options before bombs were dropped. So I find myself saddened greatly by today's news reports, but I am not scared for my safety, at least not yet.

Thank you for your understanding for the bad "incident" in Beijing, i'm so sad for that also. But pls believe that most Chinese people are friendly, they love peace and just expect a wonderful olympics.
I find it hard to believe that the American wasn't targeted. In all the thousands of tourists they happened to kill an American? Were was the GREAT chinese police force and stellar security they promised for the Olympics? Suspiciously absent. I expect much of the same. I personally think all of the Democratic/free countries should have boycotted these Olympics.
I am a chinese living in Shanghai now. I am so sorry for this news and feel sorrowful about the victims' family and friends who currently suffering the great pain.
I called the The Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee and American Embassy to convey my regards to the victims' family. And Futher I am considering what I can do for them next.
Most chinese people are friendly and like peace. I feel guilty to this attack happened in China. I will always bless for the friends coming from all around the world. Hope you have a great time in China.

The nationalistic and fascist government of Georgia from the year 1989 support the policy of the annihilation and the impression of the aboriginal Ossetian population from the territory that they occupy. From 1991 as a consequence of repeated military actions that were undertaken by the criminal authorities of Georgia against the small nations and the national purge murdered thousands of people –Ossetians, Abkhazians, Armenians, Russians. The Georgian nation is sick, the ideas of the national oneness, justifying the territorial claims are warmed up by the Georgian mass media. The government of Georgia is financed by the USA, having it's own geopolitical interests in the region. Now the tragedy is developed, the Ossetian people are systematically shot in own houses, perish under blockages of the destroyed houses. The Georgian fascists have destroyed, have wiped about Ossetian villages, the city of Tskhinval is in ruins. It's impossible to count up the quantity of victims, that were buried under blockages of the houses destroyed by fire of the Georgian aggressors, the account goes on thousand. Groans of people from under blockages are audible. The Republic hospital where had helped to the wounded man was destroyed by the Georgian artillery, under blockages were wounded men and medical workers who could not be released under heavy fire of the opponent. Thus the Georgian party cynically declares the constitutional order prompting, one for another offers insinuations to accuse the Russian or Ossetian parts in the conflict. The people of Abkhazia will be the following victims of the Georgian extremism. We ask for the help, solidarity, and if it is possible with an exit on the international sites. Let the world knows the truth, instead of presented by the Georgian masters of falsifications lie.

I am a chinese in Beijing.Though i am not good at english very much, i'd like to leave some message here to convey my sad feelings for the people hurt in this supprising incident. I believe most Chinese love peace and are very friendly. The world is so complicated, thinking of some of the past bad things about the Games, i just don't understand why such a great Olympics has been connected by those with ulterior motives to Politics?!--I really hate Politics, to some degree! After suffering the terrible snows in winter and the earthquake catastrophe, we Chinese are just trying our best to present the best Olympic Games to the whole world!Pray for the Great Games!And pray for the Great People in this Great China！

I'm rather willing to simply regard this tragedy as an accident caused by the loss of humanity than have it connected to politics which has been used by some politicans with motives to restrict china,but practically hurt chinese ordinary people very much.
